Police have wrangled up and arrested a group of teenagers accused of ganging up to assault another youth in Sooke this summer.
In a media release, the Sooke RCMP says it was contacted July 3 by the family of the victim who had been “severely assaulted.”
It happened near the 6660 block of Goodmere Road the night before and the perpetrators were allegedly seven other youths.
“The assault was also filmed and shared on social media,” the RCMP release explained. “Investigators gathered evidence, which led to the identification of seven youth who participated in the assault.”
Warrants for their arrests were obtained and officers have since located and arrested all seven suspects.
“We are aware of concerns from parents regarding the arrest of one youth near school grounds” noted S/Sgt. Greg Willcocks. “We are taking the allegations of this assault very seriously.”
All of the suspects are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, therefore police are unable to provide any further details.
