BC woman says $500K lotto win has ‘taken away all the stress’

Marita Grattan didn’t even remember to check her tickets at first.

It was a friend’s social media post about a winning Daily Grand ticket being purchased in Mackenzie, BC, that caught her attention.

That sparked the Mackenzie resident to check her Daily Grand tickets from the Oct. 17 draw, and she discovered that she won $500,000.

“I was in my living room when I found out,” she explained. “My son was with me when I checked the ticket on the BCLC Lotto! App and then I told my husband. He didn’t believe me!”

Grattan described the feeling of winning such a significant amount playing the lottery as “dream-like.”

“It has taken away all the stress I have, and we can help our kids,” she said. “It will make things a lot easier and provides a sense of security.”

Her plan for the winnings involves helping family members, building a garage and completing other home renovations.

The winning ticket was purchased at the lottery kiosk inside Mackenzie Mall.
