A taxi driver in the Lower Mainland will have to find an alternative source of work for the next three months after being busted for impaired driving last week.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says the 33-year-old Delta man was pulled over after leaving a liquor store in Richmond around 8:10 am on Tuesday, April 29.
Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said the BCHP’s Integrated Road Safety Unit is “always on the lookout for impaired driving, even on a Tuesday morning.”
In this particular case, the yellow Toyota Prius taxi, which did not have a passenger in it at the time, was pulled over on Alexandra Road.
“The driver was given a mandatory breath demand, and an Approved Screening Device gave two results of ‘fail’.”
As a result, the taxi driver lost his licence to a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days at the company’s expense.
“The vast majority of taxi drivers take their jobs seriously and are sober,” notes McLaughlin, “but if you’re ever a passenger and you feel like something is wrong, do not hesitate to call police right away.”
