BC shooting suspect dead after setting an apartment complex on fire and driving into the blaze

One person is dead and numerous others are without a home after a shooting and apartment fire in Northern BC.

Around 1:20 pm on Friday, the Fort St. John RCMP received a report of a shooting in front of an apartment complex.

“A man in a silver two-door car allegedly shot at a black pickup truck with two occupants,” stated an RCMP press release.

“The black truck fled the scene and attended a local hospital as both occupants had suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries.”

The hospital was then placed into a lockdown procedure out of an abundance of caution.

Upon arrival at the scene of the shooting, police found that the apartment complex was on fire.

According to police, the initial investigation suggests that the suspect in the silver car had set the apartment on fire and then drove his vehicle into the blaze. Police found him dead inside his car.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and police believe there is no ongoing risk to the public,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.

“Police have identified several key witnesses and the Serious Crime Unit is actively investigating the incident.”

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to the RCMP is asked to call the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-787-8140.
