BC reporting 696 new cases of COVID-19 and 6 deaths

British Columbia is reporting 696 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 4,888.

This is where the new/active cases are coming from in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 252 new cases (1,929 active)

  • Northern Health: 191 new cases (864 active)

  • Interior Health: 118 new cases (795 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 76 new cases (724 active)

  • Island Health: 59 new cases (517 active)

  • No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (59 active)


There are currently 370 people in hospital with 139 of those individuals in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, six new deaths have been reported in BC; which brings the provincial pandemic death toll to 2,092.

Of the new deaths, five were reported in Fraser Health and one in Vancouver Coastal Health.

Another COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a health care facility in Fraser Health, bringing the total number of active outbreaks to 24.

  • Fraser Health: Willingdon Care Centre, Westminster House, Magnolia Gardens, Manoah Manor, Cherington Place, West Shore Laylum, Queens Park Care Centre, Heritage Village, Mission Memorial Hospital, Sunset Manor, Evergreen Manor, Menno Terrace West, The Emerald at Elim Village, Swedish Assisted Living Residence

  • Interior Health: Cottonwoods Care Centre, Overlander, Village by the Station, Haven Hill Retirement Centre

  • Northern Health:Wrinch Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Amica Lions Gate, Cooper Place

  • Island Health:Tofino General Hospital


In the past week (Oct. 12-18) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 2,488 (60.0%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 296 (7.2%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,361 (32.8%)

Over the past two weeks (Oct. 5-18) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 315 (68.8%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 28 (6.1%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 115 (25.1%)


The province has now administered 8,088,314 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since December, 2020.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 89.3% (4,138,787) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83.6% (3,876,579) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 89.7% (3,881,593) have received their first dose and 84.3% (3,646,128) received their second dose.
