BC motorcyclist dead after losing control, colliding with centre median on Hwy 1

Police are investigating a fatal highway crash involving a motorcyclist on Vancouver Island.

Late Wednesday evening, emergency crews responded to the crash on the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) near Mill Bay Road.

Police did not reveal the time it happened, but DriveBC first reported the closure at 10 pm.

“Early witness reports indicated that the lone motorcyclist was travelling northbound before losing control and colliding with the center median,” an RCMP release explained.

Unfortunately, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

“It appears that speed may have played an important factor leading up to the crash,” noted Cpl. Alex Bérubé.

Hwy 1 was shut down for around three hours as police investigated the scene and collected evidence. It reopened around 1 am.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash is urged to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514.
