BC introduces new farm-to-gate cannabis licence

On Tuesday, the province announced a new cannabis retail licence that will make sales a little easier for producers.

Under the new licence, producers will be able to sell non-medical cannabis products from stores at their cultivation sites.

According to a news release, the new producer retail store (PRC) licence will go into effect on Nov. 30 with applications available through the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation branch’s licensing portal.

“The fourth anniversary of the legalization of cannabis in BC is around the corner, and we continue to look for ways to support growth of the legal market while providing safe and accessible options for British Columbians,” said Mike Farnworth, minister of public safety and solicitor general.

All federal standard cultivator, micro-cultivator and nursery licence holders will be eligible to apply.

The province explains that it is intended to support the development of a robust, diverse and sustainable legal cannabis economy that is inclusive of Indigenous and rural communities.

Although applicants will have to wait a little over a month to apply for the licence, the first farm-gate cannabis facility in BC opened in Williams Lake which was the result of the government-to-government agreement between the province and Williams Lake First Nation.
