BC health officials reporting 560 new cases of COVID-19

British Columbia is reporting 560 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 4,913.

This is where the new/active cases are coming from in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 208 new cases (2,052 active)

  • Northern Health: 131 new cases (797 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 80 new cases (717 active)

  • Interior Health: 79 new cases (772 active)

  • Island Health: 61 new cases (516 active)

  • One new case of a person who reside outside of Canada (59 active)


There are currently 382 people in hospital with 146 of those individuals in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, five new deaths have been reported bringing the provincial pandemic death toll to 2,086.

Of the new deaths; two came from Fraser Health, two in Northern Health, and one in Island Health.


There has been one new health care facility outbreak in Fraser Health, bringing the total number of COVID-19 outbreaks in the province to 23.

  • Fraser Health: Willingdon Care Centre, Westminster House, Magnolia Gardens, Manoah Manor, Cherington Place, West Shore Laylum, Queens Park Care Centre, Heritage Village, Mission Memorial Hospital, Sunset Manor, Evergreen Manor, Menno Terrace West, The Emerald at Elim Village

  • Interior Health: Cottonwoods Care Centre, Overlander, Village by the Station, Haven Hill Retirement Centre

  • Northern Health: Wrinch Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Amica Lions Gate, Cooper Place

  • Island Health: Tofino General Hospital

In the past week (Oct. 11-17) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 2,407 (60.2%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 277 (6.9%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,313 (32.8%)

Over the past two weeks (Oct. 4-17) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 268 (69.8%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 22 (5.7%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 94 (24.5%)


Since December, the province has administered 8,073,677 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 89.2% (4,136,000) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.5% (3,870,709) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 89.7% (3,879,091) have received their first dose and 84.2% (3,640,757) have received their second dose.
