A BC elementary school teacher has been reprimanded for reportedly vaping in school bathrooms on several occasions.
A consent agreement between the BC Commissioner of Teacher Regulation and Stephanie Kastoris was published online on Tuesday.
The agreement details the “multiple” occasions Kastoris used the bathroom attached to her Kindergarten/Grade 1 classroom to vape in September 2024.
“After she did so, there was a lingering scent in the air in both the bathroom and the classroom, which her students noticed,” the agreement said.
“While Kastoris did not vape in front of her students, on one occasion she was vaping when they were lining up outside the washroom door, waiting to go outside.”
The agreement said Kastoris also vaped in two staff washrooms at the Coquitlam school she was teaching at.
On Nov. 6, 2024, the school district issued Kastoris a letter of discipline and suspended her for three days without pay.
The regulator investigated the matter and proposed a reprimand.
Kastoris admitted her actions were in line with professional misconduct.
The regulator said that although Kastoris cooperated with the investigation and admitted her actions were inappropriate, she did not role model appropriate behaviour and put student safety at risk.
