On June 6, at around 7:30 am, police were notified of a pickup truck that was heavily damaged after it had crashed into the galley ramp while loading the BC Ferries Malaspina Sky vessel.

“Luckily, nobody was injured during this incident," said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

Bérubé added that several sailings were delayed while the vehicle was removed and an inspection of the vessel was conducted to ensure its structural integrity.

Initial evidence suggests that the truck’s brake system malfunctioned. The 66-year-old driver was issued a $552 fine for improper brake performance.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
