A 40-year-old BC man is facing charges for alleged speeding and another man is facing tobacco smuggling charges after a single-day bust.
The first incident happened on Aug. 9 around 11:10 am in downtown Squamish. The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer stopped a pickup truck.
A news release said the driver, a 42-year-old North Vancouver man, was listed as a prohibited driver.
The officer found about seven cases of illegal tobacco products and the driver is believed to have been allegedly operating an illegal tobacco store.
According to the BCHP, he is now facing a court date for both prohibited driving and possession of the illegal tobacco products.
Three hours later, another BCHP officer stopped a motorcycle doing 196 km/h in an 80 zone on Highway 99 near Furry Creek, which is just south of Squamish.
The 40-year-old Abbotsford man blew two breath samples, both of which failed.
He was handed a 90-day roadside prohibition, an excessive speeding ticket and his bike was impounded for 30 days.
“On the bright side, the motorcyclist did not die or kill anyone else,” said Cpl Michael McLaughlin.
“Excessive speed plus alcohol impairment is a recipe that we see time and again in fatal collisions.”
BCHP officers in the Fraser Canyon just nabbed another motorcycle driver who was caught hitting 221 km/h on Highway 1 near Boston Bar.
