1 person killed in float plane crash on Vancouver Island

Sadly, one person was killed in a float plane crash on Wednesday evening, RCMP have confirmed.

On Oct. 2, 2024, at about 7:50 pm, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) notified Port Hardy RCMP of the crash in Warner Bay, Seymour Inlet.

A tactical unit with the Search and Rescue team were able to recover the three occupants of the plane, however one person was found dead.

Port Hardy RCMP is working closely with the Transport Safety Board and BC Coroners Service on the investigation. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) and West Coast Marine Services have been called in for support.

Police said the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

“Port Hardy RCMP offer their sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone impacted by this fatality,” the department added.
