A 17-year-old has been killed after being struck on a highway in BC, police said.

Police said that a semi-truck travelling southbound on the Trans Canada Highway hit the pedestrian.

The teen was taken to hospital, where they sadly died from their injuries.

A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene to conduct a comprehensive examination and collect further evidence to advance the investigation.

At this point in their investigation, criminality is not a factor.

“Part of the investigation will be to determine the actions of the pedestrian and the semi-truck prior to the collision,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
