After a long winter nap, Grinder and Coola have awoken from their hibernation on Grouse Mountain.
The bears, who live in the mountain’s wilderness sanctuary, poked their heads out into the sunshine on Tuesday.
They’ll now explore their hibernation habitat while the Grouse team prepares their full 5.5-acre summer habitat.
Both bears were rescued in 2001 and now live in a safe and secure environment at the top of Grouse.
Grinder was found found in Invermere, dehydrated, thin, weak and emaciated wandering alone on a logging road.
Coola was rescued from Bella Coola after being orphaned when his mother was killed by a truck.
According to the Grouse team, Grinder is the more outgoing and high-spirited bear, while Coola is an easygoing animal who’s content to let Grinder take the lead on new discoveries.
Next time you head to the top of Grouse Mountain, you can see both bears and learn more about the resort’s education and conservation centre.
For now, here are some adorable photos of Grinder and Coola emerging from their hibernation on Tuesday.
