Winners announced in ReelPeachFest film festival

The fourth annual ReelPeachFest film festival concluded Sunday at the 71st annual Penticton Peach Festival with the screening of the judge’s choice and fan favourite films for the Okanagan Experiences or Okanagan Liquid Libations categories.

Producers were asked to submit short films between one and three minutes in duration, with the first prize winners in each category walking away with a getaway weekend to the Penticton Lakeside Resort plus $1,000 in cash.

The second price was $500 in cash and third prize $250 in cash. The fan favourite winner received a gift basket from valued at $300.

The first-place winner in the judge’s choice category went to the film iPhone Narcissist, produced by Kate Twa and Ronan Reinart.

The second place prize went to the film Kettle Valley Railway Train Robbery produced by William Joshua Rowbottom.

The third-place winner was the film called Drums Call to Dance, produced by Li Li.

The fan favourite winner was the short film called Okanagan 101, produced by Nikki Love.

In the Liquid Libations category, the winning film was Meet Tony Holler, which was produced by Daphne Scromeda. This film also claimed the fan favourite award.

The second-place winner was the film Cannery Going With the Flow, produced by James Manke and Kim Lawton.

Finishing third was the film called Boxed Wines and Nudes, produced by The View Winery.

“We had 36 submissions and this year,” said film festival organizer Andrew Jakubeit. “The films made people laugh, smile, and exposed them to local experiences that they might never have known existed.”

Clips from entries into the festival were shown to crowds at Penticton Peach Festival each night during the 2018 event, which wrapped up Sunday in Okanagan Lake Park.

Clips from the winning films were shown to a large crowd attending Sunday evening's closing night events, which included a concert by Canadian country-pop star Madeline Merlo and her band.
