On May 21st of 2021, Penticton Public Sculpture Exhibit coordinator Kaare Yeske and crew distributed a new batch of sculptures on Penticton's Okanagan Lake waterfront, where they'll remain 'til May of this year.
One of those works, by artist Joanne Helm of North Saanich, is entitled "Joy of Life Unbalanced." It depicts a short-legged dachshund in mid-stride, trying somehow to come to grips with a fiendish balance board.
Apart from a green croc (the summer shoe, not the reptile) that was mysteriously fitted on one of Joy's paws not long after installation, life for the artful doggie has thankfully been rather sedate ever since.
Until Friday, that is, when a colourful, fashionable scarf appeared on its neck.
Accompanying the scarf, a handwritten note advising, "I'm not lost! Need a little something to help keep you warm? Please take me."
As of Monday morning, the scarf is still there. Does that mean it hasn’t yet been used? Or that it has, and then been returned for someone else?
We're not sure, but we like the vibes all around on this one.
