The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is investigating vandalism at a local park that causes significant damage.
According to the RDOS, two parks were targeted over the weekend.
Vandals caused flooding at the public washroom at Wharf Park, forcing a temporary closure.
Manitou Park was also targeted and some of the vandalism includes several solar bollards being thrown into the lake, damage to the park’s irrigation system and several toilets at the public park were intentionally blocked.
The RDOS said the solar bollards will need to be replaced and a plumbing contractor was called in to fix the toilets.
Two of the six washroom stalls will be closed for at least three days to allow for repairs.
“These acts of vandalism are estimated to cost Naramata residents close to $10,000,” said Adrienne Fedrigo, Electoral Area “E” director.
“This intentional damage impacts public amenities and diverts resources away from community improvements.”
The RDOS said it is working with local authorities to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
