(UPDATE: July 28 @ 7:40 am) – The City of Penticton has lifted a water advisory for Okanagan Lake Beach.
The advisory was issued Friday due to high levels of E. coli.
However, the advisory was removed by late Saturday afternoon.
All signage has been removed from the area.
(Original story: July 26 @ 4:45 pm) – A water advisory has been issued for a section of Okanagan Lake in the southern region of the valley.
On Friday afternoon, officials said “higher-than-normal” levels of E.coli had been found in a water sample from Okanagan Beach between the S. S. Sicamous and just west of Power Street.
“This test found 2,500 colony-forming units of E. coli per 100 ml sample, which is above the maximum allowable number of 400 per 100 ml sample,” the city says in a news release.
Swimming is not recommended at this time and signs have been posted in the area to notify people of the poor water quality.
The advisory will remain in place until Interior Health determines bacteria levels have returned to an “acceptable” level.
A similar advisory was issued for a beach in West Kelowna earlier this month.
However, NowMedia spoke with officials that said the rest of Okanagan Lake is safe to swim in.
