Sunday afternoon grass fire on PIB land now "under control"

A grass fire ignited mid-afternoon Sunday on PIB land approximately a half kilometer west of the intersection of the Penticton Channel Path and the KVR Trail.

For an hour or more, smoke wafted over the northwestern edge of the city and was highly visible from the Channel Parkway.

At approximately 4 pm, PentictonNow observed two Penticton Indian Band Fire Dept trucks enter the Channel Path from the road access at the intersection of Hwy 97 (adjacent to Doc's Golf Centre) as crews made their way to the remote blaze.

Not long after, they'd reached their target and were actively battling the fire.

At 5 pm, PentictonNow spoke with a PIB firefighter working on a hydrant at Doc's who said the situation was now "under control."
