Street sweeping set to begin in Penticton

Street sweeping season is here.

With warmer temperatures in the forecast for the foreseeable future, the city says the street-sweeping team will be getting an early start this year.

Work will begin Thursday in the Wiltse neighbourhood, the city says.

Everyone is reminded to keep an eye out for the temporary signs that will be posted in neighbourhoods notifying the area before the upcoming work.

The city says multiple machines will be used to clean the streets and remove debris all at once and every effort will be made to avoid waste collection pick up days.

Residents are encouraged to help out crews by sweeping sidewalks adjacent to their property to the gutter to ensure everything gets cleaned up.

People are also asked to obey the no parking signs or traffic cones when they are in place while crews work.

Once street sweeping is done, crews will also be out painting traffic lines and road markings where needed. That is expected to begin by mid-April.

After the initial maintenance this spring, crews will be continued during the summer and fall as needed.
