Riverside Village Starbucks closed 'temporarily'

Got a hankering for java this cloudy Sunday? Don't bother stopping by the Starbucks at Riverside Village (Riverside Drive and Hwy 97).

It's closed.

PentictonNow noticed the oddity this afternoon when we spotted customers walking to the door and then walking away.

So we followed them, only to see a sign taped inside the front door, and another at the drive-thru window, each indicating the location is "temporarily closed" and that "we are working to re-open our store as quickly as possible."

We then knocked on the door. No answer. We then phoned the store. No answer. We called the Starbucks media line and left a message, then checked the Starbucks website and saw the location is due to remain closed all the way through Wednesday.

Regular hours are said to resume Thursday at 5:30 am.

With the permanent shutdown of the Starbucks at Westminster and Main in early 2020 (it's now Tickleberry's Downtown), the closing of the Cherry Lane Mall outlet in February, and now this "temporary" closure, there's currently just two operational Starbucks in the city -- inside the Safeway at 1301 Main, and the full-service drive-thru at 1636 Main.

Amongst all of this, the Seattle-base coffee juggernaut announced in January it was eliminating "up to 300" of its Canadian locations by the end of March.

Judging by the signage and the indicated Thursday re-opening -- not to mention the seeming popularity of the place -- it would seem the Riverside Village store wouldn't be part of that measure.
