Public engagement dates set for proposed project on Spiller Road

The dates have been set for the public engagement process for a proposed housing development on Spiller Road, along the Naramata Bench.

On May 17, Penticton City Council voted to begin the process to gain feedback from the public on the proposed single-family, 112-unit development on the property located at 1050 Spiller Road.

City staff will begin the engagement process before asking council to consider any amendments to the Official Community Plan and zoning bylaws.

“This engagement program is our first opportunity to formally discuss the proposal with the community,” said Penticton Mayor John Vassilaki.

“As this is a new and different proposal from the previous application, we hope the community will take advantage of the opportunities to learn about what has changed and ask questions before forming an opinion and sharing their feedback.”

In February 2021, the city rejected a proposal for a 300-lot subdivision on the property.

“The previous application on this property was denied by council, for good reason I believe. But I'm surprised by how much the developer has listened to what we've said about that previous application,” said councillor Julius Bloomfield at the May 17 council meeting.

Those who are interested in learning more, can choose from the following four events:

  • Attend an Online Info Session on June 9 or 23 between 6:30 pm and 8 pm. Go to shapeyourcitypenticton.ca to sign up and receive the link.

  • Drop by an In-person Open House between 10 am and 12 pm on June 18 outside at Uplands Elementary or June 25 at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-in Centre.

A website on shapeyourcitypenticton.ca has been created to gather copies of the council reports, development proposal, preliminary site layout and new OCP and zoning maps.

Feedback forms for residents and non-residents are also available on the website.

Paper copies of the engagement materials an feedback forms are also available at the Penticton Public Library until July 3, which is when the engagement process ends.
