Public bathrooms in Naramata's Manitou Park vandalized, temporarily closed

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is advising people that public washrooms at Manitou Park in Naramata are temporarily closed.

The RDOS says the washrooms were vandalized on Tuesday between 4-6 pm.

Staff found that plumbing amenities and door hardware were damaged and evidence of drug use was also found.

Witnesses provided descriptions of a group of youths believed to be responsible for the latest incident. The washrooms were closed earlier this month due to similar misuse and damage.

Damage from both incidents is estimated at $5,000.

The RCMP are investigating both incidents, the RDOS says.

“This type of misuse impacts the enjoyment of Manitou Park by residents and visitors,” said Adrienne Fedrigo, Electoral Area “E” (Naramata) Director.

“Park users are encouraged to report acts of vandalism to the RCMP by calling the non-emergency telephone number at 250-492-4300.”

Staff will be onsite at Manitou Park on Monday to open the washrooms temporarily during the Family Day Scavenger Hunt, which starts at 11 am.

They will be closed again after the event until repairs can be made.
