Pro wrestling tore through Penticton Saturday night, and a boisterous sold out crowd at the Lusa Canadian Multicultural Society (right across the street from Bad Tattoo Brewing) ate it up.
It was Canadian Wrestling's Elite's first ever stop in Penticton, and it brought along one of the true all-time stars of modern wrestling, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake.
Beefcake was a mainstay during the WWF (World Wrestling Association) heyday, grappling with such notables as Hulk Hogan and Randy "Macho Man" Savage in front of massive TV audiences, and gaining additional fame for cutting the hair of conquered enemies with a pair of garden shears.
Beefcake was there Saturday night, hobnobbing with fans and playing the role of guest "outside the ring" referee in a feature tag team match pitting bad guys "The Crazed Cowboy" Jacob Creed and "Hell Raiser" Justin Lock against local good guys "Dreamkiller" Jayce D'Arcy of Penticton and "Blonde Bomber" Braydon Goss of Summerland.
Much to the delight of the crowd, the locals would ultimately emerge victorious in a fast-paced, athletic bout. But not without several mid-match dust-ups between their nefarious opposition and Beefcake.
So when The Barber whipped out his shears post-match and with the assistance of D'Arcy and Goss gave Locke a minor trim, the place went justifiably crazy.
In other action, "Canadian Hercules" Tyler Colton pinned "The Belgian Bull" Robin Lekime with a powerbomb; "The Queen Of The Okanagan" Scarlett Black defeated Jade; CWE Champion "Hotshot" Danny Duggan retained his title against "Top Drawer" Michael More; Slave, Camaro Cope, & "Top Gun" Sean Gaston scored the win in a controversial finish against "The Japanese Beast" Shigehiro Irie, "The Razing Blaze" Rekka, and Naomi Yoshimura; and 2018 Elite 8 Winner Roy "Flash" Gordon defeated CWE Tag Team Champion "The Canadian Crusher" AJ Sanchez.
The sold out Penticton date was one of several in the CWE's current Okanagan tour, and it was a heck of a lot of fun. Said a happy CWE boss Danny Warren (who also wrestled as "Hotshot" Danny Duggan in the evening's third match) afterward, "We're nearing our 10th anniversary, so to have that kind of success and reception our first time in the area has us extremely optimistic we will have a continued and progressing relationship with the Okanagan."
The CWE will return to Penticton and the Lusa Canadian Multicultural Society on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019. For more info, hit up their Facebook page.
