The Pow Wow Between the Lakes will be returning to the South Okanagan this summer.
Last February, organizers announced there would be no 2024 edition of the event after the death of local elder, Grace Greyeyes.
Kristine Jack, executive director of Four Seasons Cultural Society, explained that it was traditional protocol not to have these types of events or ceremonies for one year after a community member passed.
Now that one-year mourning period approaches a close, the Four Seasons Cultural Society will be welcoming the community back to the South Okanagan Events Centre from July 18-20.
The three day gathering will feature competitive drumming and dancing, cultural demonstrations and opportunities for all to experience the traditions and culture of the South Okanagan Indigenous community and their visitors from other communities.
“We are excited to welcome everyone back to the Pow Wow Between the Lakes,” said Jack.
“The event has always been about celebrating our culture, strengthening our communities and sharing traditions, and this year’s gathering will be especially meaningful.”
The society is hosting the event in partnership with the City of Penticton.
“The City of Penticton is proud to once again host this incredible event and we welcome all to come and experience the traditions, music and dance that make it so special,” said Mayor Julius Bloomfield.
