**Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said the crash happened on Martin Street. The RCMP has since issued a correction and said it happened on Wilson Street.**
Mounties in Penticton continue to probe a single-vehicle crash that happened Sunday night and its potential connection to a robbery a short time earlier.
The RCMP was called to the scene of the crash in the 3400 block of Wilson Street, where a vehicle struck and damaged the fence around a residential property, around 8 pm.
“The male driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital for treatment,” explained a Penticton RCMP release.
“Fortunately, no other persons were injured in the incident, and the surrounding fence of the building sustained moderate damage with no impact to the building itself.”
According to police, preliminary information suggests a potential link between the crash and a robbery that happened just prior.
The RCMP didn’t provide further details on the robbery, but noted that “investigators are actively working to determine the connection between the two events.”
Those details are being kept close to the chest to protect the integrity of the investigation, police say, but the RCMP is assuring residents that there is no risk to public safety at this time.
Anyone with information on either incident on Sunday is urged to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
