Police vehicle 'riddled with bullet holes' after drive-by shooting in Penticton

An RCMP vehicle has been “riddled with bullet holes” after officers were shot at in Penticton during the early hours.

Police said officers were conducting an impaired driving investigation on Tuesday at about 1 am at the intersection of Peach Rock Road and Green Mountain Road when they were fired upon.

They believe the bullets were fired from a red SUV that they’d seen drive right past the officers – west along Green Mountain Road – as they conducted their investigation.

“Believing the driver was simply observing, officers took little notice and continued their investigation,” the RCMP explained.

“Soon thereafter, they overheard gunshots fired in their direction, believed to be originating from the SUV.

“As numerous shots were fired in their direction, officers took cover, while then observing the SUV driving away westbound on Green Mountain Road. One of the police vehicles was riddled with bullet holes.”

Police said none of the officers, residents or pedestrians were injured.

“This was a very clear disregard for police and public safety,” Cst. James Grandy said.

“It further highlights the dangers our frontline officers are facing each day while serving our communities.”

The shooting comes just days after a group of visitors to Penticton were fired upon in an "indiscriminate" attack.

Police said they’d like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
