Both the RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating an incident at Penticton Regional Hospital that surrounds the death of a patient.
According to police, officers were called to the hospital on Monday “in relation to a patient’s death.”
The patient had been admitted into the hospital’s in-patient psychiatric unit at the time of their death, an RCMP statement explained.
Interior Health contacted the RCMP immediately after the incident and police said there were no threats of harm to staff or patients in the unit.
However, no further details were provided on the incident in question.
“Penticton RCMP will continue to work in collaboration with Interior Health on best practices that consider the safety of all visitors, patients and staff,” said Cst. James Grandy.
Both the RCMP and BC Coroners Service are in “close communication” with the health authority as each agency conducts their own separate investigation.
