Penticton RCMP arrest man near scene of fire

The Penticton RCMP are looking to speak to any potential witnesses of a fire that started early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 9:20 am in a green belt near Ridgedale Avenue and Penticton Avenue.

Fortunately, the Penticton Fire Department managed a quick response and got the fire safely extinguished.

The fire has been labelled suspicious and is believed to be human caused.

One man was arrested near the scene.

However, the investigation remains ongoing.

No injuries were reported and no significant property damage has been reported.

“The RCMP would like to thank the City of Penticton By-law Officers who initially observed and immediately reported the fire, along with the Fire Department whose quick actions prevented the fire from causing further damage to the community,” says Supt. Beth McAndie, Penticton RCMP Detachment Commander.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the RCMP at (250) 492-4300.
