Penticton RCMP investigating series of thefts from Canada Post mailboxes

A rash of thefts from Canada Post mailboxes in Penticton are being investigated by the RCMP.

According to police, these incidents have been ongoing since Nov. 21.

Mailboxes that have been compromised include:

  • Kendall Cres / Ridgedale Ave
  • 650 Duncan Ave W
  • Braid St / Eckhardt Ave E
  • Maccleave Ave / Woodlands Dr

Anyone with CCTV footage that may have captured the mailboxes above and any suspicious activity around them is encouraged to contact the Penticton RCMP.

“We’re actively investigating these thefts, and in the meantime want to encourage the public to attend in person at their local post office to make sure their letters are delivered,” said Cst. James Grandy.

“If one must use one of the community drop off mail boxes, they should consider doing so during the week, and earlier in the day on weekdays. This way, their mail won’t be left inside the box over the weekend.”

An RCMP release explained that criminals who steal mail are targeting prepaid credit cards, gift cards, cheques and documents that make it easy for them to access banking and other personal information.

Anyone with information about these thefts or relevant CCTV footage is urged to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
