Just after midnight on July 6, emergency crews responded to a bush fire in the area of Brandon Avenue and McGraw Street in Penticton.

Crews quickly contained the blaze and investigators have since determined that the fire was intentionally set. Police say the fire could have caused damage to the nearby homes.

In an effort to advance the investigation, the RCMP has released a photo from surveillance footage obtained from the area that shows a suspect arriving on a “unique motor scooter” not long before the fire was started.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the early morning hours of July 6 to contact the Penticton RCMP,” said Cst. Kelly Brett of the Penticton RCMP.

“Even small details, especially about the motor scooter, could help move this investigation forward.”

Anyone with information about the incident or who recognizes the scooter is asked to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.

If someone wishes to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online at this link.
