Penticton RCMP are investigating stabbing incident on Martin Street

A 67-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after a stabbing incident on Martin Street Saturday night.

At about 5 pm, officers received a report of a stabbing in the parking lot of a business in the 300-block of Martin Street.

A witness said they saw the victim sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by another man, who allegedly stabbed him multiple times and fled on foot.

When officers arrived on scene, containment was set up but the Police Dog Services Unit was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

The victim, who is known to police, was taken to the hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition. He is expected to survive.

“We don’t believe there is any risk to the general public and that this is an isolated incident. Our officers spent the night investigating, and will continue to gather evidence,” said Cpl. Mike Field.

“As this incident took place in a busy area with many businesses, we are asking anyone who might have seen anything that would further the investigation to please contact the Penticton RCMP.”

Police will continue to canvass local businesses for video footage of the area.

Anyone who may have information on the incident is asked to contact the Penticton RCMP at (250) 492-4300.
