The Penticton & District Community Arts Council (PDCAC) is welcoming the community to the opening of a new art exhibition this weekend.
Earlier this year, the PDCAC announced that the theme for art exhibits over the next two years would reflect on the theme of identity.
“When planning for the 2025 exhibitions, I felt we couldn’t discuss identity without talking about heritage,” says Serena Ebuchi, community arts manager at the PDCAC and curator for this exhibition. “There is no denying that heritage is an important aspect of who we are.
So, the new exhibition opening on Saturday, May 10 at the Leir House Cultural Centre is Reflections: On Heritage.
It will be in place until Aug. 23.
This marks the second exhibition of 2025 and will reflect on each artists’ heritage while displaying it through art.
“You could even say (heritage) one of the first building blocks of our identity since it’s something that we carry with us from the moment we are born, whether we are aware of it or not,” Ebuchi said.
Whether its a grandmother’s recipe, Sunday morning rituals, the music you grew up with or the dreams you have.
The exhibition will invite visitors to reflect and connect on their heritage and their own identities.
An opening reception will be held from 1-3 pm and there will be a chance to meet the artist with refreshments on hand.
The PDCAC says a variety of workshops, artist talks, performances and events will also be held during the upcoming three months to supplement the exhibit. More information will be released in the coming months.
