Penticton residents will soon be able to return to physical activity at the Community Centre pool.
The pool has been closed for seven weeks, as it was undergoing repairs and updates, and is set to reopen on Oct. 3.
“We’re pleased that this community asset is ready to welcome visitors back after upgrades to a number of areas of the facility,” said Anthony Haddad, the City of Penticton’s general manager for community services.
“The closure was a little longer than normal but the time was well utilized to allow us to address some important items such as the HVAC system, mechanical piping and plumbing and electrical systems.”
Not all areas of the pool will be reopened. The water feature in the leisure pool will be closed after repairs to it were not completed in time. The feature will remain blocked off and repairs to it will be done next year.
“While we understand this will be a disappointment for some, it will allow for the continued operation of the leisure pool and accompanying activities during this season,” added Haddad.
During the closure, a structural review of the main and leisure pools, as well as the hot tub, was completed.
City staff and engineers are now reviewing the reports to determine what additional work will need to be completed in 2024.
“We continue to be proactive in protecting our assets and the pool is a very important one,” said Haddad.
“As we’re developing the plan, we will work with user groups to ensure that we’re minimizing any disruptions.”
This year’s work is estimated to cost $800,000 and a schedule for the pool will be available in the near future at this link.
