In 1999, several local car enthusiasts formed the Penticton Historic Automobile Society with the goal of establishing a quality, three-day car show.
The first Peach City Beach Cruise was launched in June 2001 and welcomed 250 classic and antique vehicles.
Now, the annual car show attracts nearly 800 vehicles with some coming from as far away as Saskatchewan, Texas and southern California.
While COVID-19 restrictions halted the past two years of the event, the Board of Directors is excited to announce that this year will go ahead as planned.
“We look forward to hosting our 20th car show this coming June,” said Wayne Wood, President.
“All of us missed the excitement that builds as we work towards creating a car show unlike any other. We’re happy to be back.”
The Penticton Peach City Beach Cruise offers car aficionados the opportunity to show their vehicles in the superb setting of Lakeshore Drive.
This year’s show will feature a daytime and evening cruise in downtown Penticton, a wine tour to five wineries in nearby Summerland, and entertainment in Gyro Park.
“In past years tourists would visit Penticton for the weekend of the car show even though they didn’t own show cars,” said Wood.
“The opportunity to walk by and admire as many as 800 cars of many different years, models and makes is an opportunity not to be missed.”
The car show is scheduled all weekend long on June 24, 25 and 26.
