Investigators believe an incident in Penticton over the weekend, which sent one man to hospital, was targeted.
According to the RCMP, officers responded to a “serious assault” in the 1700 block of Main Street around 10 am Saturday.
Police say the altercation involved two people and took place in the middle of the street.
It prompted a significant police response and a 28-year-old male suspect was found nearby, arrested and eventually charged with aggravated assault.
The RCMP says he was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again today.
“Police have determined that this was a targeted incident, and there is no threat to public safety at this time,” an RCMP release explained.
Mounties did not provide an update on the hospitalized man’s conditions, but noted that his injuries were serious in nature.
Investigators are urging any potential witnesses, or those with dash cam footage from the area Saturday morning, to come forward and speak with police.
