Penticton-based adventuring outfit Hoodoo Adventures has launched a non-profit temporary shuttle service between Penticton and Vancouver for anyone impacted/stranded by the recent rash of Okanagan wildfires.
Seems Hoodoo suddenly found itself with a stationary fleet of SUVs and vans, normally used to transport cyclists into the wilderness, when the wildfires of the past week took hold and careened into the hospitality and recreation biz.
But rather than crying about it, Hoodoo selflessly opted to set up the long-distance service.
"Our hearts go out to our neighbors and friends who have lost their homes and to our fellow tourism friends and business owners, and their employees, who are experiencing high rates of cancellations and enormous losses due to travel restrictions with communities kept in their houses from poor air quality," said a Hoodoo Facebook post from Sunday afternoon.
"We are now offering our shuttle services that can no longer take cyclists to the trail, to take those stranded to Vancouver and bring people back. It is only a small thing that we can do but hopefully we are able to bring ease to some in this difficult situation.
"We hope that our local followers are safe and ask that those from other parts of the world to send us all your positive energy, we sure could use it."
It's certainly not the first time PentictonNow has witnessed Hoodoo doing good for the public at large while collecting little to no profit in return.
The service, as of its Aug. 21st debut, includes van and SUV shuttles to and from Hoodoo's HQ at 131 Ellis St. in Penticton to the Vancouver Airport.
Prices, which are non-profit and cover onlty the costs for staff, fuel and mileage, are currently as follows: Penticton to Vancouver in a van: $95, Vancouver to Penticton in a van: $75, Penticton to Vancouver in an SUV: $150, Vancouver to Penticton in an SUV: $75.
Two shuttles leave daily at 7 am from Penticton and return at 1 pm, though that schedule may change if demand warrants.
