Amelia Boultbee’s resignation from Penticton city council has been made official.
Boultbee, who was elected to council in 2022, ran and won the riding of Penticton-Summerland for the Conservative Party of BC in the recent provincial election.
The City of Penticton has begun the process of planning for an upcoming by-election to replace her on council.
City Manager Anthony Haddad says the process that will be followed is clearly laid out in the Local Government Act.
“The work includes any necessary amendments to the City’s Election and Assent Voting Bylaw and updates to the Political Signage Regulations Bylaw, which will be considered by council in December,” he explained.
“As well, potential dates and availability of voting locations need to be considered. Taking all these factors into consideration, the by-election is likely to occur in the early spring.”
Penticton council will eventually be tasked with appointing a Chief Election Officer, who will have 80 days to set a by-election date that must be on a Saturday.
Boultbee’s resignation is effective immediately and council will continue to fulfill its mandated duties down one member.
