All signs indicate notorious house on Winnipeg Street will soon be empty

There is only one person left living at what has become a notorious residence on Winnipeg Street in downtown Penticton.

The City of Penticton issued a news release Thursday saying the “problem property” at 377 Winnipeg St. has only one resident still living there after the property owner was served an “order of possession” of the property earlier this week.

RCMP officers, City bylaw staff and members of the Penticton Fire Department attended the property on Wednesday for an overall inspection of the premises, said the news release.

The property continues to have Good Neighbor Bylaw issues and fire and life safety bylaw issues, said the release.

Only one tenant remained inside the property, but indicated they will be leaving soon.

The enforcement partners have another inspection planned soon and will follow up to see if the home is empty.

“The City plans to board up the property once the tenant has vacated and arrange for a clean-up,” said the news release. “Regular private security patrols have been arranged to mitigate issues around the property.”

Neighbours have been complaining about this home and property for several years and several have called it a well-known “drug house” where the dealing of illicit drugs takes place at all hours of the day and night.

Electricity has been cut off to the home since April.
