A Penticton-raised actor is front and centre at South London Theatre in the UK this week.
Maika Toporowski has reached a new milestone in her career, making her London stage debut with the lead role of Rachel Watson in The Girl On The Train from July 11 to 15.
“I feel incredibly lucky to get this opportunity and this kind of role so immediately after graduating drama school,” Toporowski says.
The actor landed in the UK in July of 2022 upon graduating from the Terry Knickerbocker Conservatory in New York City and has hit the ground running.
After booking her first audition in the country, she performed the role of Lady MacBeth with Ravenscourt Theatre.
Immediately following, she was asked by the theatre company to do another classic show of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors.
Since May, the Penticton star has been in rehearsals perfecting her performance of a woman who longs for a different life after a failed marriage, multiple failed attempts at pregnancy and a growing dependency on alcohol.
Toporowski is in all 16 scenes of the two-act script of The Girl On The Train, based on the best selling thriller novel of the same name.
“If you told me three years ago I would be doing this, I think I’d laugh in your face,” Toporowski adds. “It’s honestly a dream come true.”
