A 200-bed care home is set to be constructed in Penticton and is expected to open by 2028.
On Friday, BC’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix announced the approval of the new long-term care (LTC) facility.
Kaigo Senior Living was awarded the project and will design, build and operate the facility.
Kevin Svoboda, president and CEO of Kaigo Senior Living, said the goal is to create a “warm, loving environment” for seniors.
Construction is expected to start next spring.
“Kaigo Senior Living has a track record on delivering quality long-term care services and the capability to build a 200-bed care home in Penticton,” said Dix.
“This partnership with them will significantly increase people’s access to more LTC beds to support their needs as they age.”
The 200 LTC beds are part of the government’s plan to support the construction of nearly 500 beds in the Interior.
Other facilities are being built in Kamloops, Kelowna and Nelson. Most recently, a 90-bed facility opened in Vernon in February.
“The addition of this long-term care residence to Penticton ensures that people are cared for and supported as they age by compassionate health-care providers, and I know that it will serve our community well for many years to come,” said Roly Russell, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen.
