Teen hit with multiple fines after fight in Fruit Union Plaza parking lot

North Okanagan RCMP apprehended one of two men involved in a fight at Vernon’s Fruit Union Plaza in the early hours of this morning.

A passerby noticed the two men fighting shortly after midnight in the Fruit Union Plaza and called police.

The individuals involved in the fight fled into Polson Park before police arrived, but only one of them managed to escape.

“Our officers conducted foot patrols of the park and located a highly intoxicated man who matched the description given by the complainant,” said Cpl. Tania Finn.

“The second individual could not be located.”

The apprehended man, an 18-year-old from Edmonton, was placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place as he was unable to care for himself.

After being checked by paramedics, he remained in police care until he sobered up.

He’s now been fined $115 for being intoxicated in a public place and $230 for possession of liquor by a minor.
