Smoke expected to settle across the Okanagan for the next day or two

Heavy smoke is moving back into the valley due to local wildfires.

A special air quality statement was issued Sunday afternoon for the Central and South Okanagan.

Wildfire smoke is expected to impact Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton and communities as far south as Osoyoos over the next day or two.

“Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. Everyone can take action to reduce their exposure to wildfire smoke,” says Environment Canada.

People who are particularly sensitive to the smoke are advised to take extra precautions to protect themselves or keep themselves comfortable.

If possible, staying indoors is recommended. People can also consider wearing a mask and stocking up on rescue medicines if you have asthma.

Much of the smoke is coming from fires near West Kelowna, Peachland and Penticton.
