A Canadian citizen was caught trying to smuggle 70 kg across the border in the South Okanagan.
On June 11, border services officers at the Osoyoos port of entry examined a truck crossing the border from the US.
A further investigation of the truck bed uncovered several bricks of cocaine.
“This is the largest cocaine seizure at this port of entry and represents an estimated 140,000 individual doses,” a news release from the Canada Border Services Agency said.
The driver was arrested and transferred to the custody of the RCMP Federal Policing – Pacific Region.
No other details have been provided at this time.
“This seizure is a great example of the dedication and expertise of CBSA officers as they continue to work hard each and every day to prevent illegal drugs from breaching our borders,” said Nina Patel, Regional Director General of the CBSA Pacific Region.
“I also want to recognize and thank the RCMP for their ongoing collaboration to ensure public safety.”
