It’s been a dry winter across most of the province and many ski hills struggled with opening for the season due to a lack of sufficient snow and cold weather.
As was the case in the South Okanagan at Apex Mountain Resort, which did not fully open until late December.
The effects of this unseasonably balmy winter also delayed another secret gem at the ski hill just southwest of Penticton, but a recent bout of subzero temperatures has allowed the Adventure Skating Loop to open.
The one kilometre-long loop, which opened in winter 2022, offers up a magical experience through the serene forest around the ski resort.
The track is maintained daily by Apex’s Zamboni, ensuring a smooth, sparkly skate through the snow-covered trees.
Adventure skating is now open from 9 am until 10 pm daily.
You can bring your own skates or rent a pair at the resort’s rental shop, which is open from 9:30 am until 4 pm, Sunday through Thursday.
The rental shop is open late on Friday and Saturday.
The cost to coast along the scenic skating loop is $5 and skate rentals are $15.
Although the exciting winter time destination is open for the season, operation is weather dependent and larger snowfalls can affect hours.
Be sure to check Apex’s website before heading out to the hill.
