Okanagan man dies in two-vehicle crash on Hwy 97

Police have confirmed that a crash on Hwy 97 north of Vernon Monday night was fatal.

According to the RCMP, emergency crews were called to the “serious collision” near Tonasket Road around 8:20 pm.

Investigators determined that a northbound Subaru crossed the centre line of Hwy 97 and collided with a southbound Mercedes.

The driver and lone occupant of the Subaru, a 36-year-old Vernon man, was extricated from his vehicle and rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Both the driver and passenger of the Mercedes suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Hwy 97 was closed for several hours to allow emergency personnel to safely clean up the road while investigations probed the crash scene.

The road reopened to traffic shortly after midnight.
