People in the South Okanagan are being advised that a local emergency department will be temporarily closed Wednesday night.
Interior Health says the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver will close at 5 pm Wednesday.
It is scheduled to reopen at 7 am on Thursday.
Anyone needing emergency care is being advised to travel north to the Penticton Regional Hospital.
“People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility,” says Interior Health.
All other inpatient services will continue as normal, however.
This is the second closure of the year at the South Okanagan General Hospital.
The first happened on Mar. 20, which resulted in a six-hour closure.
