Okanagan film festival coming to Kelowna

A new local film festival is coming to the Kelowna Community Theatre later this month.

On Feb. 25, The Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmaking (OSIF) is hosting The Okanagan Screen Awards, a prestigious, red carpet film festival that celebrates local film and video creatives.

Chelsea McEvoy, the OSIF president, says it is a unique event where creatives and film enthusiasts come together under one roof.

“It’s not very often we get to celebrate all our content creators of all genres,” McEvoy adds. “We are thrilled to be creating this annual event for our film community and look forward to seeing it grow in future years.”

The all-day event will include a screening of 75 local projects, accounting for approximately 800 minutes of content.

The categories include:

  • Feature narrative
  • Short narrative
  • Feature documentary
  • Short documentary
  • Music videos
  • Commercials
  • Fashion/model videos
  • Action sports
  • Social media content
  • Animation
  • Wedding/engagement videos

There will be two different screens continuously playing different entries throughout the day, leading up to the red carpet gala and awards show in the evening.

Kelly Veltri, the event organizer, says the talent really shines through.

"It's impressive to watch."

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
