(UPDATE: Feb. 13 @ 9:50 am): Mounties in Oliver say they have identified the man they were looking for on Wednesday after reports of suspicious behaviour.
A man was said to have stopped in a car before asking three young children if they'd like to see his puppy.
But it has now all been cleared up and police are no longer concerned.
The man came forward to explain his actions to police.
"Oliver RCMP would like to thank the man for his courage to come forward and help set the minds of parents in the community at ease," said Sgt Jason Bayda.
"RCMP also wish to commend the children for their courage to do the right thing and the complainant for reporting the circumstances to police."
(Original story: Feb. 12 @ 5:15 pm): The Oliver RCMP are investigating a suspicious occurrence where a man stopped his vehicle and asked three young children if they wanted to see his puppy.
The incident occurred this morning on Harmony Crescent. A parent was watching the children, who were on the road waiting for their school bus.
The man was in a grey four-door car, possibly a 2000 era model. He stopped and spoke to the children and the parent called out to the children and the man drove away.
He is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 50-years-old with grey hair.
Officers are canvassing the neighbourhood and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this man and vehicle. They would also like to speak to anyone who has video surveillance cameras in the area. And, of course, police want to speak to the man to learn of his intentions.
"Although the matter may have been innocent, out of an abundance of caution we would recommend parents speak to their children about ‘stranger danger’, and provide them avenues of who they can go to if they ever feel scared or threatened," said Sgt Jason Bayda.
