According to the BC Conservation Officer Service, a “mussel fouled” Sea Ray cruiser boat was en route to Kelowna when it was flagged during a routine inspection in Alberta.

“The boat was found to be contaminated with mussels and have standing lake water in the bilge,” reads a social media post.

“Thanks to swift coordination between Alberta and BC teams, the vessel was redirected for full decontamination before it could reach Okanagan waters.”

The service further explained that Alberta inspectors initiated a partial decontamination, the BC Conservation Officer Service issued a decontamination order and resealed the vessel and then a Penticton team scheduled a full decontamination.

Boaters are reminded to always clean, drain and dry their vessels.
